New position. We are recruiting.
This is 99% front of house / office based. We did fill this role a few months ago. It didn’t work out. We’d rather have someone with all the enthusiasm to acquire the skills we require, than someone with all the skills and zero enthusiasm. Therefore, this listing will be quite thorough. Please do have a full read through…
We will start with the boring side....
Experience in Estate Agency or Conveyancing (or indeed moving and storage) is an advantage, but by no means essential. You can quickly learn what you need to. Frankly, if you’re working for an Estate Agent or Conveyancer and a little fed-up, this could well be the role for you.
What you’ll be required to manage:
First off, there’s paperwork. The production thereof. You have to be able to get this right. Mistakes have a genuine quantifiable impact. This is the most boring thing you’ll do. To be fair, once you’re up to speed it really should be no more than 90 minutes of the day. We cannot stress enough however that it has to be exact, and right.
After this we get into the more dynamic and fun elements.
Dynamism will come into play on most days – you should be able to handle an influx of telephone calls, walk-in storage customers, bookings in the diary, paperwork, all whilst maintaining a professional and courteous manner. We pride ourselves on our solid reputation as one of the best, if not THE best, moving company in the UK, and it’s essential that any employee shares the same values and ethos.
You will be required to 'get inside the diary'. Develop an intuition for what may happen and when in terms of customers moves, and when they may happen.
The team you will be working with are a high energy bunch – there’s plenty of banter, a real family vibe, but everyone has a dedication to their role, and company expectations. When we need to knuckle down and get a task done, we all work together for the best outcome for the customer – the heart and soul of what we do. The customer comes first and foremost, so you’ll have strong customer service skills.
You will be talking to a wide range of people – it’s a genuinely interesting role, and you’ll be expected to expand any knowledge you may (or may not!) already have of the conveyancing and physical moving process. We are experts in our field, and proud of it. This is more than simply answering the phone/emails to enquiries; you will need to become a conveyancing guru, and be able to relay this information in a clear and concise manner to assist customers who may not always have a firm grasp of the process.
Your core roles and tasks however are as follows:
Social Media. You are going to have full responsibility for our online presence. You’ll be required to either learn to, or jump straight into, looking after all social platforms for us. Design, create, produce and implement new, fun content.
Long Term projects. We have many ongoing projects here. Each project being assigned to a person. Yet while each project falls to an individual, we act as a team. Bouncing ideas around. We can’t list the projects here. Suffice to say they’re broadly enjoyable and will give you a sense of ownership and fulfilment.
Your role, your position can, and should, have a direct impact on the performance of this company. In morale, all the way through to the bottom line.
We have already proven this role can have an effect.
There is a revenue-based bonus scheme that can be worth up to 10% gross salary per month. Your role, performed well, will absolutely help us nail that consistently.
Looking forward, we are seeking to automate processes. Frankly as much as possible. This is about to be a learning curve for all of us. As much of the job we're about to employ you for as possible!
This being to make more room and time for less monotonous things. Therefore, you'll be expected to either know, or be prepared to learn, programs and certain measures of AI in order to facilitate this. We are all on this learning curve... As processes become easier, the plan is it frees up more creative time elsewhere.
You will also be somebody who understands that when we are up against it you just might find yourself on the odd occasion packing glassware. Whilst this might only pop up once or twice a year.....it's important to know that ultimately, we are all here to serve our customers. Well. We'll all chip in when needed.
Hours:
We are seeking somebody to work somewhere from 36-40 hours per week. We can discuss exactly what they are. However, we will have a fixed timetable agreed by us both by the point you start, so you and us will know what's fair and expected.
The role is ideally 4 days in the week and 2 Saturdays per month. With the weekday start-time being 07:45 and the Saturday start time 08:00. Lunch break can either be 30 mins or 1 hour. All this is open to discussion.
You will be a reserve key holder. There is a very, very remote chance you may have to attend an alarm call out of hours. The chances are very, very slim. As in once every few years. However, it would be remiss if we didn't mention it.
The marketing you'll also be doing requires patience, and the ability to switch off to perform a repetitive task. It can be spread out to be a small amount each day. However, it is one of those jobs that just has to be done. It's crucial.
We like to have a lot of fun and banter here. A real-world outlook is a must. We are very old school.
We have all of Christmas off. Which, frankly, is great! You'll be expected to keep 5 holiday days back for this. Generally, we shut down just before Christmas Eve. Then return in the New Year. Should this period require more than 5 days, we tend to overlook it. We are a nice company. Similarly, we are very flexible with doctors’ appointments etc. We believe in fostering an environment where work is enjoyable.
We do run a bonus scheme. The last few years we haven't hit targets. However, we are in our busiest month for three years. With a good outlook.
Salary depends on the eventual hours & days we settle on. However, think in terms of £13:50>14:50 per hour being the potential to start. This depends on experience, age, and what you’ll bring to the table.
Oh, and the often-overlooked part is that your role, your actions, your personality will directly benefit other people's lives on a daily basis. You'll literally be making people have a better day, because they've dealt with, and spoke to you. This can be multiple times per hour, let alone by the day.
Uniform will be provided, but you'll need your own trainers...
If you are reading this and think 'that is me' or even, 'that COULD be me'. Get in touch.
There's a lot more we could write, and may well do yet. For now, however, we do not wish to bore you.
Email Matt on matt@mgtr.co.uk Tell us who you are. Tell us what you’re like. And understand that over Christmas you may not get a quick response. However, we do need to get this role filled quickly.
We strongly advise having a look through our website and indeed here on Facebook to get a feeling for us as a company before emailing.
Remember, a CV only tells us where you've been. Not who you are.
A thick skin, good sense of humour, ability to not take yourself too seriously, while at the same time understanding the importance of team-work, results, good manners, courtesy, and professionalism is all essential. With the greatest of respect, if you’re sullen, immature, unable to understand the three P’s and cannot understand the importance of both praise and criticism…Don’t get in touch.
We look forward to hearing from you.
